WeWork DC: Coworking firm signs major lease at Capitol Crossing project by Curbed DC

Coworking giant WeWork will open an 111,000-square-foot office at D.C.’s Capitol Crossing megaproject above the I-395 freeway by the end of 2019, the company said in a release last week.

WeWork will run three floors of coworking space at 200 Massachusetts Avenue NW. This will be one of the company’s biggest locations in the District.

WeWork is already the largest non-governmental office tenant in the city, a recent report from the DowntownDC Business Improvement District found.

New York-based Property Group Partners is the firm behind Capitol Crossing, which at completion will include 2.2 million square feet across five buildings.

The building WeWork is slated to move into is the first of those buildings to open, offering 400,000 square feet on 12 floors; the American Petroleum Institute is now a tenant.

In a statement, Lex Miller, the general manager for WeWork’s Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, said the location will add to the company’s growing portfolio in D.C. and provide proximity to Capitol Hill, especially for “Members in government affairs, trade associations, and lobbying.” According to the DowntownDC BID’s report, WeWork was leasing more than 1 million square feet of office space across 14 locations as of March 2019, or about a quarter of the total 4.2 million square feet of coworking space at 81 locations throughout the District.
